Teaching Philosophy

My goal as a teacher is not only to educate, but to be educated. In order for me to be the best teacher I can be, I need to be well educated on how to best teach my students. Not all students are going to learn the same way. Even if I teach the same grade year after year I will have to adapt to my class. Reflections and adaptations are a required part of my professional life in order for myself and the students to get the most out of my lessons and units. I will strive to always be open to change and never confined in my teachings so I can grow as a professional. I want every child to feel included and empowered. I will focus on individualized instruction by creating diverse and pedagogically sensitive lessons. Not all students will meet the same standards but I want them all to have achievable goals and meet them. 

I believe that beyond a teacher, I am a role model. I will demonstrate to these children respect, love, appreciation and encouragement. I will believe in them so they will believe in themselves. I will give them a voice in their classroom and their learning. I will celebrate their successes. In doing this I want to instill a sense of accomplishment and pride in them. Creating students who strive to be the best they can be would be the ultimate reward.
